6th May Caymans day Eight {C2K week 7 day 5}

Early start this morning so we could get the kids to school then Claire and I went up to the North Sound to visit Stingray City! All of today's photos where taken by Claire on an Olympus Tough waterproof camera.

As you see Stingray city is not a town but a sand bar in the North Sound where transitionally fishermen would clean their catch. the southern stingrays would gather and feed on the cleanings. For the last 50 years visitors have been ferried out to feed and handle the rays. The creatures have got so used to human interaction the will swim toward any boat arriving at the sand bar.

 After visiting Stingray city we went to the Barrier Reef then on to Coral Garden for some snorkeling and feeding the fish

On the return journey we stopped to get acquainted with the local starfish

  3. Stingray city, the only place in the world where you can interact with wild stingrays in this way. Its incredible how they hoover up the squid from your hands. they are enormous fish and slightly intimidating when they swim through your legs. The fish on the reef are amazing. looks like you had less of a swell than when we were there. Great pictures!
