Hectic Saturday but lovely evening

Lots of tooing  and frowing three trips into town totaling 4.68 miles but the evening I went over to Kingston Barn for an amazing concert, organised by my friends at Folk In The Barn,   Chris & Kelly While are a mother and daughter duo who do some amazing harmonies.

Another Sunny Day

So Thursday being another day of having to wait for deliveries here are some photos from my 26 mile ride on Wednesday.

Firstly Victory Wood, a 'new' public wood which I knew nothing of till I stopped there. Planting started in 2005 to celebrate the 200th anniversary of the Battle of Trafalgar I hope the info boards are legible to you all.

The Nelson Statue is interesting it has the names of all the types of wood used in HMS Victory carved into it.

At the top of Crows nest hill square post set out the footprint of Victory 17 of these posts have plaques with the names of the woodland species used in the construction of this ship.

In front of Victory are eight Quercus Ilex {evergreen oaks} which represent eight enemy ships of the line.  The board below explains this.

Looking from Victory to the south the land rises to 'The Link Sculpture' I hope you can see it in this photo.

Looking north you see the Isle of Sheppy, The Swale Estuary and Whitstable Bay, if you look closely you will see the sea wall at Seasalter that two hours after this was taken I cycled in front of to get home.

Again the post you see mark out the stern part of the footprint of HMS Victory.

From Victory Wood I cycled to Whitstable, on route I set off the interactive sign on Borstal Hill which told me to slow down as I was doing 35mph not bad on a push bike!!! 

From Whitstable I took the sea wall to Hampton just west of Herne Bay on route I visited Swalecliffe Parish Church another building locked against vandals and theft with no information regarding access.

All in all Wednesday was a good day just over 26 miles then another 1.56 in the evening cycling to town and back.

Those of you who read Mondays Blog will know that there was no photograph of me, this has now been rectified so go back and have a look.

Tuesday was a no cycling day as I had washing to do then went and did same gardening at Dads. I had intended to go out on my return home but the weather took a turn for the worse and I didn't want to get wet, unlike my washing!!!!

One thing I forgot on Mondays Blog was the cake!! Baked and decorated by my sister-in-law Barbara it not only looked good it tasted good as well.

And after all the birthday gifts have been put together or planted the garden looks

I didn't get that feeding station very upright did I!!!

Today I cycled to Hampton and back a total of 26.1 miles calling at Victory Wood on route picture of that tomorrow.

23rd June is my fathers birthday having been born in 1924 that makes him 90!

To celebrate this momentous event he {well actually my brothers and I} held an at home. Many of his family and friends turned up and with glorious sunshine we were able to gather in the garden to enjoy a wonderful afternoon.

Monday morning I again cycled over to my friends to wait for the parcel delivery that didn't arrive on Friday. It came this time so that's 2.46 miles to my total.

Friday!!

Ok so Friday is normally cycle in the morning Food Bank in the afternoon but a friend was having a computer delivered this morning and they asked me if I would be around to receive it, yes I said but as usual the deliver guy had a different Idea!

So with the ride to their house then the food bank I went for a short trip after my shift at the Food Bank you can see it here

Sunshine and fresh fruit

I have been cycling but I have also had lots of other things to do so I have had the chance to do the interesting visits when I have been out on my bike. Things like Blood Donors and shopping sort of get in the way of interesting places.

Yesterdays long ride was out to Boughton and back via a cherry orchard very tasty

Powder and Ponds

A little trip dropped some things in at the foodbank, no shift today, so I decided to visit the Oare Gunpowder Works not to be confused with the Upless works both are now a nature reserves. But Oare still has some of its buildings and there is a lot of information about the old mills.

From the Gunpowder works I went up the Oare Creek where most of the powder would have been loaded on to barges and shipped out.
