25th July

A 5 and a bit hour stop over in Dubai and we left again at 2am, and I thought yesterday was tough, for the 4 and a bit hour flight to Kolkata.
The plane arrived roughly on time and then the enterable queue for immigration and baggage collection. between passport control & Customs I managed to loose the little slip of paper that we have to the customs officer. Fortunately they just gave me another one to fill in and all was ok. We were met by Pastor Asis Sarkar and two of the BMS staff with two 4x4’s to takes us too the guest house.
Kolkata traffic is very similar to Kampala’s but with fewer motor cycles and the taxis are yellow and black Ambasador’s and not Blue and white Toyotas!  Auto rickshaws, some times called Tuck Tuck, are a new feature to the urban landscape & we actually saw two of the famous Kolkata Rickshaw pullers, officially the use of Human power to pull a rickshaw is illegal in India but they still ply their trade in Kolkata.
The Guest house is in its own compound behind a tall brick wall but has a wonderful garden that, though you can hear the trafic outside is a haven of peace in the busy city

24th July

4.30 is a ridiculous time for an alarm to go off! But having got up and had half a cup of tea and more tablets than I really wanted to take, our lift arrived at 5.15 and having met up with the the team we drove to Gatwick and passed through to the departure lounge, except that Geoff set the metal detector off so we had to wait for him to be frisked!

Right that will teach me to make fun of Geoff’s misfortune I have just had my luggage scales confiscated in Dubai. I didn’t realise but they had a hidden tape measure in them which is not allowed on the plane, strange no one at Gatwick notice it. 6 hours wait in Dubai now.

39 hours to go!

OK  its all packed in the suitcase but it only weighs 22kg what have I forgotten?

My allowance is 30kg and I have about 2kg of craft materials for the school we will work with. I'm sure I have missed some thing.

My hand luggage is 5kg it was 7 on the way to Uganda my binoculars cant weigh 2kg!

Oh well if i have forgotten any thing i'm sure i can buy it in Kolkata.

Oh by the way the Bengali script to the left says KOLKATA.
fun eh

48 Hours to go

I suddenly realised i had done nothing to sort out what I was taking with me so in panic scribbled down a list of what I needed and then arranged it all on the living room floor.
Tonight I'll have to review the list and find out what I have forgotten!!!!!
