Lake District 2014 Day Three Cartmel & Grange

With Chris still not up to long walks we decided to visit Cartmel Priory established in 1189 with the requirement that the Priory provided a church for the local parish it is one of the few remaining complete 'Priory Churches' left in Britain.  A massive church with an amazing bell tower set at 45 degrees to the base it is amazingly airy in side, with a mix of ancient carvings and modern sculptures. So few words and lots of pictures today.

From Cartmel we drove to Grange over Sands to get some lunch from the local bakery which we ate in the local park.

Lake District 2014 Day two Skelwith

With Chris having a damaged ankle we decided not to attempt any log walks today so visited Skelwith Force

The gift shop at Skelwith also had a coffee shop and a takeaway service these were very tempting

But I resisted them as we were heading up toward the Landales for lunch

Location for lunch The Three Shires

The Three Shires Inn so called as it sits on the junction of the boundaries of the old counties of Westmoreland Cumberland and Lancashire. Sadly our usual order of 'Three Old Men' could not be met as they had run out of that particular brew!!!

From The Three Shires we drove down to Coniston sadly Bluebird is still in the repair shop so not at the Ruskin Museum but I was draw to the iron work on some of the gates.

From Coniston we drove to Brantwood House home of John Ruskin from 1872 until his death in 1900, there we had tea at Jumping Jenny's Tea room

Lake District 2014

Ok our usual October visit to the Lake District, today was a lovely sunny afternoon Steve and I decided to walk into Kendal via Castle Hill partly because Steve had never been to the top in good weather and partly because it was to be the site for Kendal's One Sky One World celebrations. 
as for OSOW no wind meant no kites  FAIL!

Today to finish the Khushi Feet Cycle to Kolkata project three of us cycled from Margate to Faversham. We were met in Faversham by Khushi The Cow
